A4.2d, BRONZE, 2009-2013
In the work A4.2D, a patinated copper-silicide bronze version of A4, we see the effect of texture and color on the form. Working with the chemicals that allow for this particular patina, involves a process that invites in dynamism. With a blowtorch in one hand, and the chemicals in the other, one applies the chemicals simultaneously with heating the sculpture: the temperature defines the color, explaining how chance and ‘being in the moment’ define the final result.
This is a bronze relief which Badriah patinated herself, using several chemicals. The process is started by heating the piece evenly with a blowtorch while dabbing the chemicals on the blazing surface with a brush. Timing is key here, as the cooling down changes the color.
